Elvis was alive and well on Wednesday night in Malden, when the oldies band The Reminisants played outside City Hall, featuring covers of the King and other stars from the Pre-iPod Era.
Make that the Pre-Walkman Era. A crowd of about 100 took in the two-hour set, some dancing singly or in pairs to songs that first topped the charts in the 1950s and 60s.
"I love it," said Esther Carducci, 84, a lifetime resident of Malden. "It's songs that I know from my time. You understand the words."
"It's lovely," her friend Ann Bucci added. "The type of songs, the instruments."
The concert also attracted families, including a mother-daughter duo from Medford just passing through en route to a dinner out.
"We're enjoying it," said Melissa Miguel, who watched the show for a moment with her 6-year-old daughter Lauren. "I can't get past the dancer."
She referred to Medord resident Lillian Juzwiski, who smiled from ear to ear as she danced in front of the band.
"This band makes me go-go," Juswiski said.
She can thank the Office of Mayor Richard Howard, which sponsored the concert with the Malden Redevelopment Authority.
City Councilor James Nestor said that while the city used to host more summer concerts, residents still appreciate every chance they get to hear live music.
"Anything that brings people together is great," he said.

Lillian Juzwiski said the band "makes me go-go."
