Composer Gabriella Snyder of Malden was at the Grand Canyon in 2006 when an idea for a musical drama she had put aside for seven years was rekindled. The result is ‘‘The Rough-Face Girl: An Algonquin Cinderella,’’ a Native American tale.
Mass Theatrica, based in Lynn, presents the world premiere of the show Oct. 17 in Malden and Oct. 18 in Lynn.
‘‘The Rough-Face Girl,’’ is the story of a Native American girl whose face has been burned and scarred from tending the fire. She sees things others can’t and goes on a quest to marry the Invisible Being, finding healing in the process.
The show is coproduced by Mass Theatrica artistic director Angeliki Theoharis, who also sings the role of the medicine woman, and executive director Meredith Lavine.
Tickets are $15, $13 for students and senior citizens. They can be purchased in advance at www.masstheatrica.org or at the door.
