Mystic Valley freshman football beats North Shore 20-0
The following is a press release issued Nov. 5 by Mystic Valley Regional Charter School:
Friday afternoon on the home field of the North Shore Bulldogs, the Freshman Eagles showed up ready to play. The Eagles defense started the game strong by forcing the Bulldogs to punt on their opening drive.
The Eagles took over on offense and went right to work. On third and 18, running back Amro Ali threw a 30 yard pass to tight end Robby DeSantis who carried the ball all the way down to the North Shore 8 yard line. Woodsy Prosper followed up by punching in the first Eagles touchdown with an off tackle run.
The Eagles defense continued its strong play forcing a fumble which was recovered by Fabian Hernandez. The offense capitalized with a long sustaining drive that ended when Prosper scored again on a 5 yard run.
The Eagles went into half time leading by a score of 12-0.
At the start of the second half the Bulldogs forced the Eagles into their first punt of the season! Punter, Woodsy Prosper, booted a 60 yard punt creating great field position for the Eagles defense. The defensive play of Nick Russo (2 sacks), Robby DeSantis (6 tackles), Fabian Hernandez (5 tackles and 3 ½ sacks) and Eric Fields (3 tackles 1 ½ sacks on the day) played a key role in the game.
Later in the half, on a second down play from scrimmage wing back Jackie Yu made a huge block that opened up a running lane for Calvin Phung. Phung raced through the hole for an 80 yard run to the end zone. This touchdown run was capped off by a two point conversion catch by Robby DeSantis thrown by Amro Ali.
On the ensuing kickoff safety Jackie Yu was injured and back up safety 8th grader Shane Norton had to step in. The Bulldogs went right after Norton and threw a pass into his coverage zone. Norton responded by making a touchdown/shutout saving tackle. The drive was stopped on the next play when Amro Ali picked off a pass for his team leading and amazing 4th interception of the year.
Quarterback Kevin Hazelton was 2 for 3 on the day with a huge first down run early in the third quarter that kept the touchdown drive alive. Calvin Phung had 6 carries for 115 yards for the offense.
The Eagles next game will be Friday, November 6th when Greater Lowell comes to play at Mystic Valley.
