The following information was provided by Malden High publicity director Paul Famiglietti:

The Malden High School Golden Tornadoes Marching Band took first place in Division 4 at the New England Marching Band Championships held at Reading High School Oct 30.

“The students represented our city with dignity and honor amongst a lot of other great competitive bands,” commented Matthew Tavares, MHS band director.

The Golden Tornadoes finished the season scoring 93.7 (the highest score the band has gotten in recent competitive history). “Students not only played well but pleased the crowd who unanimously agreed that this year's title belonged to Malden. I was honored to have competed against such fine bands and to who have worked with such outstanding students,” said Tavares.

Finishing behind Malden in Division 4 were Wakefield (93.3), Melrose (90.9), North Andover (89.3), Stoughton (89.0), and Plymouth (87.3). Other Division winners were Case (Division 1), Billerica (Division 2), Shepherd Hill Regional (Division 3), and Dartmouth (Division 5).
