I would like to publically thank all of the sponsors and instructors who made the Malden winter baseball clinic a resounding success. Over 200 kids aged 4-12 come through the doors at the Salemwood Gym to learn the game of baseball or to enhance their baseball skills. Each week a different group of guest instructors ran the kids through a number of drills to teach them the correct techniques of throwing catching, pitching, and hitting while creating an atmosphere of fun and excitement.
The program could not have been offered free to all of the children of Malden without the help of our sponsors. I would like to thank Mayor Richard Howard, The Malden Redevelopment Authority, Malden City Council's Citizens Engagement Committee, and the Malden East and Malden West Little League organizations.
The guest instructors were the reason for the clinic’s success. Their sessions were planned out meticulously and were run to ensure the kids had fun and learned new skills. When the idea for the clinic was being discussed, we reached out to a list of potential instructors to see if there would be any interest on their part. Each and every one agreed to be part of the clinic without hesitation.
The years and levels of baseball experience that reside in Malden are truly amazing. I would like to thank the following individuals and programs to volunteering their time to the clinic:
Steve Freker, head varsity coach for Malden Catholic and the Malden Bambinos Senior Babe Ruth Team; Kevin Carpenito, head varsity coach of Malden High; Chris Bauer, head varsity coach for Mystic Valley Regional Charter School; Bryan Straccia, from 10th Player Baseball; the coaches from the Malden Babe Ruth League; Ernie Ardolino and the instructors from Line Drive; Mike Giardi from The Hit Zone; and the coaches from both the Malden West and Easy Little Leagues.
Last but not least I would like to thank the volunteers who help run the program each week. They include Ken Antonucci, Larry Collins, Rob Hannifan, John Pelligrini, Marie Shea, and Melissa Smith.
We hope the kids will continue to play baseball and hope to see them on the fields this spring.
