Police talk Malden man from ledge

Tragedy was avoided Thursday when a 23-year-old Malden man was talked down from a sixth-floor ledge, police said.

Officers responded to the CBD Garage on Middlesex Street for a report of a person on the top floor, Malden police said in a statement.

An officer on scene recognized the man as a former Malden High School student, and engaged him in conversation, established a rapport, and eventually convinced him to back from the ledge.

The man, whose name was not released, was interviewed and transported to a facility for treatment, police said.
