A cabdriver was robbed in Malden early this morning when a trash bag was thrown over his head and his passengers demanded money, police said.

Malden Police Lieutenant Marc Gatcomb said the robbery occurred about 12:30 a.m. when the cab driver picked up a man and woman in Medford and drove to Pearl Street in Malden.

Gatcomb said the man pulled out a trash bag and placed it over the cab driver’s head, forcing him to pull the car over. The woman told the driver she had a gun.

“There was a struggle between the cabdriver and the man that spilled outside the cab and the driver was robbed of more than $100. The suspects took off after taking some of the driver’s belongings inside the cab,” said Gatcomb.

Malden police searched the area with dogs and tracked the suspects to a nearby sober house but the suspects were not inside, police said.

Gatcomb said some evidence was left behind in the cab and police hope to make arrests in the case.

The cabdriver declined medical attention.
