Fallon denies write-in campaign for Malden council; four voted out of races
At-large City Councilor and mayoral hopeful Deborah Fallon today dispelled a rumor that she was quietly running a write-in campaign to retain her position on the council.
In a brief phone interview this afternoon, Fallon roundly denied the suggestion, and said she is running for one office -- the mayor of Malden -- before she suggested that the accusation came from the "other side."
Her mayoral opponent, Gary Christenson, councilor for Ward 1, refuted that his staff were involved. In a brief phone interview, Christenson offered that if Fallon can provide specific proof of the rumor's origins among his followers, or identify a member of his campaign involved he would "address the matter internally," he said. The two will square off in the Nov. 8 final election in a race to succeed Richard C. Howard, who announced in November he would not seek reelection. He has held the office since 1996.
