A man and a woman were arrested last night by Malden police in connection with the robbery of a cab driver in which the assailants allegedly placed a plastic bag over the victim's head.

Jason S. Russell of the Fellsway in Malden and Jaime Lyn Diaco, of North Avenue in Haverhill, both 34, were arrested without incident at the Malden Stop & Shop  after police issued warrants for their arrest. They are both charged with armed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The robbery occurred early Wednesday morning after the cabbie drove the pair from Medford to Pearl Street in Malden.

According to police, the male passenger, alleged to be Russell, pulled out a trash bag and placed it over the driver's head, forcing him to pull over the car, the Globe reported yesterday. The woman told the driver she had a gun, police said.

A struggle ensued, spilling outside the cab, before the suspects took off with more than $100 and some of the driver's belongings.

The suspects were tracked by a police dog to an area sober house, but they were not inside, the Globe reported.
