Paul FamigliettiThe Malden High School junior varsity field hockey team tied Dracut, 0-0. to finish the season 6-7-5.
"The girls played very well tonight," said Coach Kim Barber. "It is so nice to see how much improvement they’ve made throughout the long 18-game season. We had the ball by the net a few times, but just couldn't punch it in.”
Over the course of the season, Kristen Leonard scored seven times for Malden, leading the team as the top goal-scorer. Throughout the fall, Julie Bourgea and Tamires Matos were key players in protecting the defensive zone. Jill Powers, Samantha Dorazio, Kristen Leonard, and Haley Sutera made up the forward line, scoring often and keeping the pressure on the opponent’s net. Casey Arsenault, Robyn Santo, and Monica Joseph covered the midfield with speed and agility.
Goaltending duties were shared by Emily Moran and Amanda Iraola. Iraola earned the final shutout of the season.
"I was really proud of the girls this year, how far they have come, and look forward to seeing them on the field next year," commented Barber.
