The following is the first Ward 1 update from newly inaugurated City Councilor Peg Crowe:

Happy 2012 Friends and Neighbors!  Now that the baton has been officially passed on, it is time to get to work!

I have booked the Ferryway School for Thursday Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. to have our first 2012 Ward 1 Neighborhood Meeting.  I would like to start off my term with a face to face meeting where we can discuss as a ward how we are going to work together over the next two years.

Moving forward I would like to set up quarterly Ward 1 meetings that will feature speakers and presentations on topics important to the ward. I also want to establish the "Wall of Work"-- a running list that we create together identifying items that need to be addressed.  (If someone has a creative name, please let me know)  Building on that, the monthly updates will include the list we created, and action steps that I have taken until we get to completion.  Obviously, there are lots of other items that come up in between meetings and those will also be included on the updates.

I have been meeting with Mayor Christenson and know that he is going to continue citywide updates.   I want to work with Ward 1 to create a monthly update format that is both informative and useful, and is not simply a duplicate of some of the information Mayor Christenson is sending out.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Christmas Tree Pick-up:

Malden will provide curbside pick-up of Christmas trees the week of Jan. 9th through Jan. 13th.

Trees should be placed curbside on your regular trash day. They will be put through a chipping machine, and must be free of decorations, garland, tinsel, wire, and cannot be placed in a plastic bag. Trees will be recycled for composting.

Malden residents may also bring trees to the Department of Public Works, 356 Commercial St., Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. or Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.

No wreaths will be picked up.

For more information, please contact the DPW at 781-397-7160 or e-mail:  lsanderson@cityofmalden.org.

Proposed Baseball Stadium Survey and Presentation:

On Thursday. Jan. 12 from 7-9 p.m., in the Council Chambers at City Hall, there will be a development presentation concerning the conversion of the 6.6-acre National Grid-owned site at 100 Commercial St. into a professional minor league baseball stadium.

In preparation for that presentation, please take a few minutes to complete the survey on the city website, www.cityofmalden.org, and submit questions that will be asked during the presentation.

As you know, the proposed stadium is located in Ward 1, so I am really looking for your input on this major project.
