The office of Malden Mayor Gary Christenson is using an online survey to ask residents anonymously about a controversial ordinance passed Tuesday that classifies pit bulls as vicious dogs and requires them to be muzzled in public.

Christenson has 10 days to sign or veto the measure after the ordinance officially reached his desk Wednesday following a heated debate.

He has since vowed to hear from supporters of the law, championed by City Councilor Neil C. Kinnon, as well as from residents who say the measure is an unfair assault on a specific breed.
