Peabody's Iascone, Malden Catholic senior, awarded National Merit Scholarship

The following was submitted by Malden Catholic High School:

Malden Catholic High School announced that Alex Iascone, the son of Janice and Daniel Iascone of Peabody, has been selected as the winner of a National Merit Scholarship.  The prestigious $2500 scholarship is underwritten by National Merit Scholarship Corporation.  Iascone (shown here with Malden Catholic Headmaster Edward C. Tyrrell) has been accepted to Harvard.

Approximately 1.5 million juniors in some 22,000 high schools entered the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).  Only about 15,000 students nationwide were named Finalists, based on several requirements that included submitted a very detailed scholarship application and presenting a record of very high academic performance.  All winners of the 8,300 National Merit Scholarships were chosen from this group of distinguished Finalists.

Iascone is an active member of the Malden Catholic community, serving as editor of the school newspaper and competing as a member of the Chess Team and the award-winning Robotics Team.  He is a regular cast member in Malden Catholic drama productions.  Iascone is a member of the National Honor Society.
