The following letter was submitted by George Romvos, President of Malden Fire Fighters Local 902.

On the heels of Fire Fighter Memorial Day, a day on which we remember our Malden Fire Fighters who have served our citizens, those who continue to serve and those who died while serving, including the members of our Malden Fire Department who have served and continue to serve our country in the military, I wanted to thank the members of the Malden Fire Department for their strength and commitment.

It is truly an honor to work alongside my brothers and sisters who are Malden Fire Fighters. There are retirees who have paved the way for us and taught us pride in our work, and there are everyday heroes in our department who quietly demonstrate leadership in Fire Fighting.

Two of our recent heroes are Fire Fighter Brian Parow, who after having been recognized a little over a year ago for his part in rescuing a Malden fire victim, Fire Fighter Parow was back in action saving the life of a man who was in cardiac arrest. Fire Fighter Parow received a Commendation for Meritorious Act by Fire Chief Murphy in which the commendation states, "Fire Fighter Brian Parow has reflected great credit on himself and the Malden Fire Department."

Another of our recent heroes is Fire Fighter Galvin Murphy who heroically rescued two trapped and injured occupants from a burning motor vehicle accident on Route 93 at his own great personal risk. It is important to note that these acts of heroism were performed when both Fire Fighters were off work, yet there truly is no such meaning as "off-duty" to a Fire Fighter. Fire Fighters are at the ready for saving lives every moment of every day.

I thank Fire Fighters Parow and Murphy for their heroic acts and their good leadership, and I thank every Malden Fire Fighter for her/his service to our community.

Sincerely,

George Romvos, President
Malden Fire Fighters Union Local 902
