Malden Catholic student Lucas Cunha inducted into CSF scholars
The following was submitted by Malden Catholic High School:
Lucas Cunha, the son of Jose and Aderli Cunha of Malden, was recently inducted into the CSF Scholars by the Catholic Schools Foundation.
The Catholic Schools Foundation (CSF) announced its Class of 2016 CSF Scholars in May at a Mass Celebrated by Sean Patrick Cardinal O’Malley, O.F.M. Cap. Archbishop of Boston. Cunha, a Malden Catholic freshman, was one of nearly 100 incoming high school freshmen who attended the mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston’s South End. The Class of 2016 CSF Scholars was joined by the inaugural class of CSF Scholars, who were inducted into the program at last year’s event. Following the mass, students, their families and school representatives were treated to a reception in the gymnasium of Cathedral High School, where students had their photos taken with Cardinal O’Malley.
CSF Executive Director Michael Reardon announced that as a whole, this new class of CSF Scholars includes 172 students and is receiving $411,960 in scholarship aid, with an average grant of $2,574. These new students join last year’s inaugural class to make up 344 students in the program. Over the next three years, the program will grow to have CSF scholars in each year of the supported Catholic high schools.
The scholars were selected by their high schools as students who were determined in their educational endeavors and showed leadership in their communities. Mr. Reardon thanked the families in attendance and encouraged each of the scholars to continue to believe in themselves and the potential of their educations.
