Sunday softball tournament to benefit cancer research
The Jimmy Fund, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and a Malden resident will team up to host a charity softball tournament Sunday to raise money for cancer research in memory of a Malden West Little League player who died of Neuroblastoma.
Organized by Malden resident Larry Collins, the fifth annual tournament will be held in honor of Nick DeFelice. So far 10 team have signed up for the competition, including squads from the Malden Police and Fire departments and the Malden Pop Warner organization.
Each team brings a $250 registration fee that benefits the Jimmy Fund. About 25 teams are expected to contribute and play, organizers said in a statement.
Games will take place on the two ball fields at the Salemwood School, with a barbecue and raffle drawings to follow.
