Malden Police arrested two people -- one on gun charges -- early Sunday morning after an altercation at a Bryant Street house party escalated.
When officers arrived near the apartment at 265 Bryant St. about 2:45 a.m., two cars loaded with people fled the area, police said. Officers followed them and stopped both cars, one a 2003 Jeep Liberty, the other a 2003 Toyota, said Police Lieutenant Marc Gatcomb.
When the Jeep came to a stop, the passenger, later identified as McKerven Lynch of Sturges Street in Medford, took off running, forcing a Malden officer to chase him through several yards near Cross Street, according to police.
When officers searched the car, they allegedly found a loaded hand gun under the passenger seat, and charged Lynch with carrying a firearm without a license and unlawful possession of ammunition, according to police records.
Gatcomb said when police searched Lynch at the station they found a knife in the waistband of his underpants, and charged him with possession of the illegal blade, which exceeded the state's two and a half-inch limit.
The driver of the Jeep, Ernst Decilia, of Leland Street in Malden, also was arrested for operating the vehicle with a suspended license.
