Forestdale School students collected enough donations to fill 12 boxes for troops in Afghanistan.

The following was submitted by the Forestdale School:

The students, staff and families of the Forestdale School came together and collected enough items to fill twelve boxes of supplies to send to the troops in Afghanistan. The students were asked to collect goods so that the soldiers would have a little bit of Malden during the holiday season.

The students and staff received a letter letting them know that 1st LT Christopher Carney, a Malden native, who completed his volunteer hours at the Forestdale School while attending Malden Catholic High School, was spending his first Christmas away from home. He has been deployed to Afghanistan and isn’t expected to return to the USA until next summer. 1st LT. Carney has kept in touch with the children of the Forestdale School during his time in the Army. As a show of support the students collected items so that he and his troop will have a nice holiday season while away from their families.

Students and staff donated items over a period of two weeks. At the end of the two weeks there was enough food, toys and toiletries to fill 12 boxes.
