Officials in Malden will consider defining massage salons in the city planning ordinance.

In a joint meeting with the City Council's ordinance committee scheduled for Dec. 12, the Planning Board will consider four amendments to the ordinance that would define licensed massage therapy salons and offer regulations for such businesses, according to a meeting agenda.

City councilors in neighboring Medford pushed for licenses for massage businesses earlier this year in an effort to give the city more control over shutting down those where employees were arrested for allegedly offering sex for cash.

The Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. in the council chamber at Malden Government Center.
