A committee of the Malden City Council will consider whether to permit Mayor Gary Christenson to execute a demolition plan for the National Grid gas plant on Commercial Street, a site developers hope to turn into a minor league baseball park.

The discussion, to be held by the council's Finance Committee, comes one day after National Grid and development company Boston Baseball Field of Dreams announced a 40-year, $20 million lease agreement on the 6-acre parcel at 100 Commercial St.

The council's Finance Committee includes Gregory Lucey, David D'Arcangelo, Peg Crowe, Steven Ultrino, and Craig Spadafora. They are expected to meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Malden Government Center.
