The following was submitted by the the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils:

Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray will join Jake Steinfeld, Chairman of the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils, to unveil a $100,000 state-of-the-art Live Positively Fitness Center at Salemwood School in Malden on Wednesday, January 9th at 9:30 a.m.  Last October, Governor Patrick visited Salemwood to announce it was one of three Massachusetts schools in Gateway Cities selected as a National Champion School for their efforts in promoting physical fitness innovation and healthy living standards to their students.  The other two schools who will hold ribbon cuttings on Tuesday, January 8th are Henry Lord Middle School in Fall River and South Lawrence East in Lawrence.

The ceremony will include the official unveiling, the first glimpse for the 600 students who attend Salemwood.  Adding to the day’s events, Lieutenant Governor Murray will share a proclamation from Governor Patrick recognizing January as “Live Positively Fitness Month.”

The National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils program will roll out to all 50 states in the coming years.  The goal is to build a nation of the fittest, healthiest kids in the world by providing schools with the tools they need to succeed.  Making this program even more attractive is that it does not rely on taxpayer dollars or state funding.  Each fitness center is financed through a public/private sector partnership with companies like The Coca-Cola Company.
