Schools closed, snow emergencies in effect in Malden, Medford, Melrose, Somerville

Update at 4 p.m.: Somerville's snow emergency will be lifted at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and cars parked in city lots and other designated snow emergency parking lots must be moved by 8 p.m., according to announcement from the city.

Public schools in Malden, Medford, Melrose, and Somerville were all canceled Tuesday, and snow emergencies and parking bans were in effect Tuesday morning.

A snow emergency put in effect 6 p.m. Monday remained Tuesday morning in Somerville; Medford declared a snow emergency effective 12 a.m. Tuesday. A parking ban will remain in effect in Melrose until 10:30 a.m.

Along with public schools, Cheverus School in Malden and Malden Catholic High School were also canceled Tuesday. The Mystic Valley Regional Charter School delayed opening until 10 a.m.
