The following was submitted by the office of Katherine Clark:
Senator Katherine Clark (D-5th Middlesex) was invited as a guest speaker at the 70th Citizens’ Legislative Seminar (CLS) at the State House recently. Several local constituents including Mary Doyle, Al Swartz, Carol Crownfield, Jean Terranova, Judith Agnes, Lori Ashline, Margaret Driscoll, and Rose Sena all of Melrose, attended the seminar last week.
“This was a great opportunity for constituents to learn firsthand about the legislative process in the Commonwealth,” Senator Katherine Clark said. “It’s a unique opportunity for our community leaders to actually experience the roles of their state legislators.”
Established in 1976 by the Massachusetts Senate and the University of Massachusetts, this seminar features presentations by Senators and staff. Topics include the history and process of the Legislature, the role of the Clerk of the Senate and the future of the Legislature.
The CLS culminates with a simulated legislative hearing and Senate session where participants use what they have learned and participate as “Senators” in the Senate Chamber to have a first-hand experience of the legislative process.
