A Malden man involved in a large methamphetamine and date rape drug distribution ring was sentenced to 8 to 10 years in state prison..

Victor Cao, 45, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, charges of possession of ammunition as an armed career criminal, and operation of a motor vehicle after suspension or revocation of license in Middlesex Superior Court and was sentenced by Judge Jane Haggerty to 8 to 10 years in prison and 5 years probation, according to a statement from Attorney General Martha Coakley.

Cao was one of 10 people arrested in a joint investigation into the drug ring by state and federal authorities in Massachusetts that started in 2008 and culminated in 2010.

Coakley's statement described Cao as a "large-scale methamphetamine dealer."

"This defendant distributed methamphetamine, a highly addictive and dangerous drug," Coakley said in a statement. "This result ensures that the defendant is taken off our streets and serves time in prison."
