Joseph Swain, a junior at the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, was recently honored at the State House for winning the Christian A Herter Scholarship. The Herter Scholarship was established by the state of Massachusetts in 1972 to provide educational opportunities to students who show academic promise and a desire to attend college. The scholarship provides up to 50% of the student’s financial need at any college in the United States.

Joseph was one of 25 students selected from a pool of hundreds of nominated students. At Mystic Valley, Joe is secretary/treasurer of the Latin Club, a member of the Science Club, Drama Club, and Student Government. He loves music and community services, and he plans on studying pharmaceutical chemistry in college
