It took four different attempts Thursday but the Greater Boston athletic directors finally agreed to release Cambridge from the GBL. By a 3-2 vote, Cambridge is one step closer to joining the Dual County League.

The next step according to Medford athletic director Bob Maloney, is a vote by the Greater Boston League principals. Maloney said he anticipates the principals agreeing with the athletic directors.

The first three votes all went against Cambridge as the athletic directors from Cambridge, Medford, Malden, Somerville, and Everett searched for a solution they could all agree on. The fourth motion, proposed by Everett athletic director John DiBiaso, was to release Cambridge at the end of this school year and it passed by one vote.

According to Maloney, the remaining GBL schools will continue discussions with the Northeastern Conference.
