Salem State promotes O’Brien to assistant VP
The following is a press release from Salem State University:
Eileen
O’Brien of Marblehead has been promoted to assistant vice president of
alumni affairs and annual giving at Salem State University. “This
promotion is both in recognition of Eileen’s leadership and
accomplishments, and in preparation for the key role she will play in
our future fund raising initiatives,” said Cynthia McGurren, vice
president of the university’s institutional advancement.
O’Brien had been serving as the university’s director of alumni affairs for the past five years. She began her employment at Salem State in 1987 as an academic department secretary and has served in number of roles including data entry operator in admissions, a clerk in institutional advancement and then an administrative assistant in three different departments – institutional advancement, human resources and the Office of the Chief Information Officer -- from 1987 to 1999.
In 2000, O’Brien was promoted to staff assistant in alumni affairs. She was named assistant director in 2002 and associate director in 2004. She earned a master’s degree in higher education in student affairs in 2009.
Salem State is a comprehensive, publicly supported institution of higher learning and enrolls over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It is one of the largest state colleges in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
