Incoming Superintendent Greg Maass made his first major announcement today, appointing Matthew J. Fox as principal of the Marblehead Veterans Middle School.

Fox, who is currently the principal of the Hamilton Wenham Regional High School and the Miles River Middle School, will assume his new post at the end of this academic school year. He will succeed current Veterans Middle School Principal Libby Moore, who is retiring.

Fox was one of two finalists named by the 12-member Middle School Principal Search Committee. The other finalist interviewed for the position was Renata McFarland, principal of Haverhill’s Nettle Middle School.

Fox holds a bachelor's degree from Washington State University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Salem State. Before working for the Hamilton-Wenham district, Fox served as interim principal at Penn Brook Elementary School in Georgetown, assistant principal at the Middle High School in Georgetown, and Social Studies teacher at North Reading High School.
