Marblehead Festival of Arts offers Bloom Scholarship
The winner of the 2011 Bloom scholarship was Lauren Nohelty, pictured here with Arlene Bloom.
Since 2008, the Marblehead Festival of Arts has offered $500 scholarships to deserving students in grades 7 – 11 through the Milton Bloom Student Art Scholarship Program, in memory of Milton Bloom. These generous awards are intended to provide financial support to students interested in developing their artistic talents.
The awards will assist the winning students in paying tuition for a program in the arts, including fine arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing. Funding for this year’s awards is to be used for programs scheduled between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013. The application deadline is May 1, 2012.
Students in grades 7 through 11 who reside in or attend school in Marblehead are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Selection shall be based on artistic talent, accomplishments and motivation. Applicants should have a demonstrated passion for art, have at least two years of experience excelling in their chosen areas and seek to expand their artistic horizons.
Information about the Milton Bloom Student Art Scholarship program is available on the Festival website, www.MarbleheadFestival.org, where application forms may be downloaded. Applications will also available at these schools: Marblehead High School, Marblehead Veterans Middle School, Marblehead Community Charter Public School, Tower School and Cohen Hillel Academy.
For questions about the scholarship and application form, please contact artscholarship@MarbleheadFestival.org.
Scholarship chairperson Peggy Farrell encourages “those who may not win this time around to apply again during the time they are eligible. There are numerous talented young artists in our community, and we want to recognize as many as possible.”
In addition to the Bloom Award, the Scholarship Committee, comprised of Jocelyne Poisson, Herb Goldberg, Lynne DeVoe, Mike Evers and Farrell, encourages high school seniors involved in the arts to investigate the Art Scholarship award. It is a $3,000 prize given to a deserving graduating senior pursuing higher education in the visual or performing arts. For scholarship criteria and other details, visit the Festival Web site or contact the Committee.
