The Jewish Community Center of the North Shore in Marblehead will host an interactive talk with award-winning actor Alan Alda as part of its ‘‘Manhattan in Marblehead’’ series Thursday at 8 p.m.

The actor will speak via simulcast from New York, and the audience in Marblehead is encouraged to ask him questions.

MASH pic.jpgNoted for his work on the television shows ‘‘M*A*S*H’’  and ‘‘The West Wing,’’ Alda is currently shifting his focus. He is launching the Flame Challenge, an effort to make science education more exciting and inspiring for children. Scientists are competing to explain the concept of a flame in terms that an 11-year-old can understand. The  competition will be judged by 11-year-olds from across the country.

For a look back at Alda's performance on M*A*S*H, click here. Then go the J's Facebook page and tell us your favorite M*A*S*H memory.

The event at the JCC costs $10 for members, $12 for nonmembers. Tickets can be reserved by calling 781-631-8330 or online at www.jccns.org.
