Marblehead's own Dr. Jack Weltner (left) will visit the Abbot Public Library on Wednesday, November 28th, at 7:00 pm, to discuss his book, "GOLF SUCKS... and then you die!" – a book that "will revitalize your lousy golf game, and maybe your life, with humor and wisdom." Dr. Jack Weltner has written numerous professional articles, but this is the first book he has written about his oldest passion.
Since he was 13, Dr. Weltner has played golf “as often as work and decency allowed.” At 77, he has begun a new pursuit: hitting his age! Rarely has he scored in the 70's. But he has managed to hit an 80 every year, for 20 or 30 years. He figures, at 77, he has only a few more years to wait.
Dr. Weltner graduated from Harvard Medical School, with honors, in 1960. He began his practice of Child, Adult and Family Psychiatry in 1967. In addition to his private practice, he worked at the Cambridge Guidance Center and Lynn Community Health Center. Dr Weltner has taught at Harvard Medical School, the Family Institute of Cambridge, the Kantor Family Center, and the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston College and Northeastern Schools of Nursing. Dr Weltner lives in Marblehead with his wife, Linda, an author and public speaker. They have two daughters living nearby and four grandchildren, ages five through sixteen.
Awards received by Dr. Weltner include the Compassionate Caregiver Award, Massachusetts General Hospital, Honorable Mention, 2000 and 2001, as well as the Marblehead Unitarian-Universalist Church’s first Jack Weltner Social Justice Award in 2002.
