Wallace Stevens

The following was submitted by the Abbot Public Library:

On Sunday, November 24th, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, Wallace Stevens will be the focus of the Abbot Library’s monthly Poetry Salon, led by Marblehead poet, Claire Keyes.  Stevens is one of America's most respected poets. He was a master stylist, employing an extraordinary vocabulary and a rigorous precision in crafting his poems.   But he also was a philosopher of aesthetics, vigorously exploring the notion of poetry as the supreme fusion of the creative imagination and objective reality.  Stevens was sometimes considered a willfully difficult poet, because of the extreme technical and thematic complexity of his work. However, he also was acknowledged as an eminent abstractionist and a provocative thinker.

All are welcome to attend the Salon – confirmed poetry lovers as well as those simply interested in exploring this poet or poetry in general!

Copies of the poems to be discussed are available at the Library's front desk.

The Abbot Public Library is located at 235 Pleasant Street, Marblehead, MA 01945. For additional information, please call 781-631-1481 or visit www.abbotlibrary.org.
