What’s happening in Mattapan? Plenty this weekend. So get out of the house, say hello to your neighbors and head to one of these local events.
The Boston Natural Areas Network Harvest Festival will be in full swing this Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Held at the City Natives Nursery (30 Edgewater Drive) the festival will feature everything from classes about beekeeping to the popular perennial divide. Participants are encouraged to bring pre-divided plants to share, and bring containers to take plants home. The event is free and more information can be found on the BNAN website.
Looking for some vegetables grown close to home? The Mattapan Farmer’s Market at the Church of the Holy Spirit (525 River St.) will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. to provide residents with the best locally grown food available. Meet the farmers and the community at this one-of-a-kind event. SNAP and Bounty Bucks are accepted.
Seniors are you looking for something do this month? Throughout the month of September, Zoo New England is offering a discounted price to seniors. For just $10 all seniors (age 62+) will receive admission to both Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo. Be sure to mention “Seniors in September Promotion” to receive this discounted price. The Franklin Park Coalition will be holding their annual Franklin Park Fall Festival. The free event gives residents a chance to visit one of Dorchester’s largest parks, forage for wild edible plants or even borrow a bike and take a tour of the park.
