The replacement structure, built adjacent to the existing bridge, that will replace the River Street Bridge.

As the Massachusetts Department of Transportation moves into the final phase of its “Heavy Lift” project at the River Street Bridge, the group will begin demolition of the existing structure Friday.

The bridge connects Mattapan and Hyde Park via River Street and carries traffic over the Fairmount Commuter Line tracks.

Because of the work the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and CSX rail line that runs under the bridge will be closed starting Friday, Apr. 13 at 10:00 p.m. till Monday, Apr. 16 at 5:00 a.m.

Traffic will also be rerouted during the work starting Friday, Apr. 13 at 10:00 p.m. and detours will be in place till Monday, Apr. 23 at 5:00 a.m.

Work on the bridge includes the demolition of the existing bridge and moving into place the new bridge that was constructed adjacent to the existing bridge.
