As Mattapan United continues its work in the neighborhood, the group is gathering questionnaires it distributed to learn about the neighborhood and to better allocate services.

The questionnaires asked residents if they own their home and if they work in the neighborhood. The questionnaire also asked residents to rate their concerns about issues ranging from police responsiveness to traffic and parking.

Organizers with the group hope the questionnaires help them form a more complete picture about the community and those who live and work in it.

Once the group has collected all the questionnaires they will turn the data over to the University of Massachusetts Boston, which will analyze it and present findings at the groups’ July “give back” meeting.

“At the ‘give back’ meeting that’s when we will form small groups based on the data and use the Early Action grant money to kick start the groups,” said Karleen Porcena, lead organizer for Mattapan United. “We’ve also been doing a push for engagement.”

Those smaller groups will target specific concerns generated from the questionnaires and work to address the specific issues. With the push for “engagement” Porcena also hopes to step up membership and get money and resources flowing into the neighborhood.

The group’s “give back” meeting will be held Jun. 27. There will also be a “visioning meeting” in May as the organization looks to form groups and begin concentrated work in the neighborhood.
