After a long search the Mattapan Square Main Streets has named its first executive director.

Tina Petigny, a Hyde Park resident with over 12-years of non-profit experience, will head up the commercial development organization.

Formed in 2010, the Mattapan Square Main Streets is part of a citywide program that works to revitalize commercial districts through a combination of technical, financial, and design support. It is the city’s 20th Main Streets District.

The new director, in addition to providing support for the group, will also provide the community with a paid full-time person dedicated to promoting and supporting area businesses and the group’s mission.

“I’m excited to bring the vision of what people want to see in the square to life,” said Petigny, a graduate of Simmons College with a BA in psychology and Masters in communications management. “I’m passionate about the community and have a lot to bring to the area.”

Petigny, who was most recently the associate director of the non-profit Youth Build Boston, will take a lot of pressure off the back of the organization’s all-volunteer board, which prior to her hiring was running all aspects of the organization.

“[Her hiring] is really going to help us get things moving a lot faster and will aid in our charge to revitalize Mattapan Square,” said Nancy Rachel Rousseau, president of the board.

The group is also preparing its Mattapan Square office at 1594 Blue Hill Ave., which is expected to be open by the end of the week

Although a larger event will be held to welcome Petigny to the community, a “soft” introduction will be held at the group’s next board meeting slated for Apr. 1 at the MBTA Transit Police Headquarters in Mattapan Square. The meeting will run from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
