The wading pool at Ryan Playground in Mattapan will officially be reopened this Saturday after undergoing extensive renovations.

A ribbon cutting and community celebration stating at 2 p.m., will be held at the facility located at 350 River St.

The Department of Conservation, which manages the five-acre park where the facility is housed, invested close to $650,000 in the wading pool and park facilities.

Work included major renovations to the water feature, the installation of a spray deck and park amenities, and the revamping of mechanical systems and existing infrastructure.

Prior to the work a single wading pool in disrepair existed at the site along with basketball and tennis courts, a playground, bathhouse, and ball field.

Designs for the water feature, provided by DCR, show an integrated spray deck and an 18-inch deep wading pool as well as new shaded seating areas and tree plantings.

Six picnic tables were also added to the site along with 14 new benches near the tennis and basketball courts. Asphalt cracks on the courts were also repaired and one “Big Belly” trash compactor was installed in addition to two traditional trash receptacles, according to DCR.

The bathhouse at the site also received a fresh coat of paint.
