The votes have been tallied and City Councilor Charles Yancey will now face off against Terrance Williams for the District 4 City Council seat, which Yancey has held since 1983.

District 4 includes portions of Mattapan and Dorchester, as well as small sections of Hyde Park and Roslindale.

After Tuesday’s preliminary municipal election, Yancey, who was also running for mayor, picked up just over 65 percent of the vote in the District 4 preliminary, according to unofficial results provided by the city of Boston's Election Department.

Williams, a Dorchester resident who works for the Boston Water and Sewer commission, picked up close to 16.5 percent of the votes cast Tuesday, putting him in second.

There were also two others vying to make it to the final: Steven Godfrey, a Roslindale resident, and Divo Monteiro, a Dorchester resident.

Godfrey took just over nine percent of votes cast Tuesday and Monteiro took just over eight percent.

The final election will be held November 5.
