The 1-year-old Medford resident, the new face of babyGap, beat out nearly a million applicants in the store's fourth annual casting call contest. His face, framed by an orange logo hoodie, will appear in Gap stores nationwide starting today and remain there through Feb. 10.
William, described as “quite silly” in his Gap bio, loves to sing nursery rhymes and play with his pet dog, Mia at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield.
The baby model is the first child of Medford residents Rebecca and Billy McLaughlin, who heard about the Gap contest from their colleagues at Mass General Hospital. When William was named a finalist in November, they went all-out in an effort to get the public to vote for him.
"We've got his face plastered all over the hospital," Rebecca told the Globe in December.
Their hard work paid off when William was announced a winner in what babyGap President Pam Wallack deemed the “biggest and most successful” contest to date.
"Our annual Casting Call contest is always one of our favorite events of the year and on behalf of the entire Gap family, I would like to congratulate William, Shyenne, Sammy and Madison for becoming the newest faces of babyGap and GapKids, she wrote in a press release.
Gap spokeswoman Kim Terry, who met William twice over the course of the competition, said the judges were drawn to his looks as well as his demeanor.
"He's got those big beautiful eyes and that adorable little pout," she said. "We were drawn to the personality expressed in the photo."
In addition to his new-found fame, William will receive a $1,000 Gap gift card and a two-night VIP trip to see the Broadway show "The Lion King."
The four winners were also featured on an episode of the entertainment show Extra, which aired last night.
