The Medford Historical Society unveiled a series of new exhibitions last Thursday, Oct. 13 during “Poetry on the River,” part of the Medford on the Mystic Arts Festival.

Over 40 people attended this free event which featured nine speakers reading poems on the theme of the river.  Afterward, guests were invited to view new exhibits on display in the main hall, featuring Medford authors, the ship-building industry, the old Medford High School, the Grand Army of the Republic, the Woman’s Relief Corps, the neighborhood of Medford Hillside, and much more.

Over the summer, the Medford Historical Society underwent a much needed renovation project to replace the ceiling and lighting.  With a fresh new paint job, the building is looking better than it has in years.

The exhibits were installed by a volunteer committee including Dee Morris, Barbara Kerr, Ryan Hayward, Ruth Roper, Kyna Hamill, and Sue Gerould. The public is reminded that the Society is open on Sundays from 12-4 p.m. and everyone is welcome to come and see the new exhibits celebrating Medford’s rich history.

Next up for the Medford Historical Society is the Second Annual Fall Cocktail Fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 7-10 p.m. at City Hall. Help the Medford Historical Society preserve its headquarters and ever-expanding collection of Medford's history.

Tickets are $40 per person or $70 for a couple, call 781-249-0748 for more information.
