Medford home and condominium sales showed signs of strength in January, new housing data shows.

Buyers snatched up 15 single-family homes during the month and 12 condominium units, according to the Warren Group, which tracks housing data statewide.

Those figures were an improvement from January 2011, when nine homes and 10 condos sold.

The median price for the homes dropped $60,000 to $280,000. Condo prices were buoyed slightly, though, increasing $30,750 to $275,000.

Statewide, home sales increased on lower prices that drew buyers into the market, said Warren Group CEO Timothy Warren.

"After a decline in sales volume in December, it's promising to see the highest sales volume in five years in January," Warren said. "Given low mortgage rates and steady prices, there's hope this year may fare a bit better."
