The area along I-93 MassHighway has targeted for sound barriers.

As a final phase of the expansive bridge project that replaced 14 overpasses on Interstate 93, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation is installing sound barriers along the highway in Medford.

The $5 million project will install noise barriers on the southbound portion of the highway between Roosevelt Circle and the Route 60/Medford Square interchange. Residents will get relief along the Brookside Parkway.

The project is expected to be complete by June 30, said Michael Verseckes, a MassDOT spokesman.

Commuters and motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during the work.
