One penny at a time, students at the McGlynn Middle School this year raised $3,000 for juvenile cancer research, the school said.

Sponsored by the student Builders Club, the drive included donations from elementary school classes and others. The annual spring event benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

"Many of our students have family or friends that have dealt with leukemia and lymphoma at some point in their lives," said student Victoria Raschi, in a statement. "We're just glad that we can help with the research to end these awful diseases."
