Medford City Councilor Richard Caraviello, a self-described "lifelong Democrat," on Monday endorsed Republican Senator Scott Brown in his reelection bid, the Brown campaign said in a statement.

Caraviello made his endorsement at a Brown campaign stop in West Medford.

"As a small business owner, it is important to me that Senator Brown continues to fight to reduce the regulations that suppress small business owners from growing in this difficult economy," Caraviello said in a statement. The first-term councilor also operates a Medford limousine service.

"During his time in office, Senator Brown has worked tirelessly for the people of Massachusetts and I believe he will continue to do so," Caraviello added.

Brown's campaign has championed the endorsement as one of several by current or former Democratic lawmakers.
