The following was submitted by the City of Medford:

Mayor Michael J. McGlynn today announced plans for the 3rd Annual Harvest Your Energy Festival which is scheduled for Saturday October 13, 2012 from 1-4PM in Medford’s Riverbend Park, at the base of “Windy”, the City’s Wind turbine. The festival is brought to you by the City of Medford’s Energy Committee and the Mass Energy Consumer Alliance.  This year's festival will feature the well known socially-conscious, people-powered band. “Melodeego”.  Audience members pedal their Clean Green Bike-Powered Music Machine, and can dance to the beat, and sing their hearts out as they musically inspire participants to “think green!”

According to the Mayor; “there will be a variety of half-hour seminars on the wind turbine and how to save on energy costs at home by professional home energy auditors.  Medford students will be hosting tables discussing wind energy and comparing different types of light bulbs.  Businesses and organizations will provide information about solar panels for your home, as well as, how each resident learn how to lower their carbon footprint.  Vendors will be selling refreshments of all kinds.  In addition, the First Patriots: Rebels at the Riverbend re-enactment under the trees will be going on along the river throughout the entire festival.  They will be marching and hosting revolutionary gun demonstrations in the field adjacent to the festival periodically.  At 1:30 p.m., the first Medford Green Awards will be presented to Medford businesses and residents brought to you by the City of Medford, the Medford Energy Committee, and the Medford Chamber of Commerce. “

Larry Chretien, executive director of the nonprofit Mass Energy Consumers Alliance said, "Today Massachusetts has a Green Communities program and many cities and towns are part of it.  But Medford led the way and should be proud of its accomplishments.  Mass Energy is proud to be associated with this great, fun, and educational event."

“It is my hope that residents will come out and join with us at this most important family-friendly community event.  We all have a stake in keeping Medford green!  And what better place than at the base of Windy to celebrate Medford’s practice of Going Green!” said the Mayor.
