Neil Osborne, an attorney and president of the Mystic Valley Area branch of the NAACP, is running for Medford City Council, according to an announcement on his website.

"City Councilors ideally function as the bridge that connects the citizens to the working apparatus that governs the daily lives of the citizens," Osborne said in an announcement. "I am greatly concerned that without new, imaginative leaders on the City Council, Medford runs the risk of rapidly declining as a great place to live, work, learn and play."

Osborne operates a private law practice and previously served as staff counsel to the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority.

In February, Osborne was appointed by Mayor Michael McGlynn to the city's Community Development Board.

All seven city councilors -- all representing the city at-large -- are up for reelection this year.
