Police are investigating a report of an attempted assault near the edge of the Tufts University campus in Medford early Wednesday morning.

The victim told police she was forced to the ground, but was able to break free and escaped with only scratches and abrasions, police said.

A woman who lives in the area told police she was walking along Boston Avenue near Nick's Pizza about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, when a man made rude comments to her, according to a release from Tufts police.

Shortly after crossing College Avenue, the man approached her from behind and forced her to the ground, police said. She fought off the attacker, broke free, and ran to a relative's house nearby, where she reported the incident to Medford police later that morning.

Tufts University provided the following description of the alleged attacker: "A light skinned Black or Hispanic male, in his mid-twenties, average height and weight with slanted eyes and a dimple in his chin, wearing jeans and a white t-shirt."

Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Medford Police at 781-396-1212, or the Tufts Police at 617-627-3030.
