City Solicitor Robert Van Campen is up for reappointment at Monday's meeting of the Board of Aldermen.

Mayor Robert J. Dolan has asked the board to appoint Van Campen for a new term, which would run until March 1, 2010. Van Campen is a member of the Everett Board of Alderman.

Dolan tapped him to be city solicitor in June, 2007. At that time, the city was relying on outside counsel for special legal services, such as labor and employee relations. The annual bill was about $300,000, Dolan said in a recent interview.

Van Campen earned $92,531.25 last year, according to city payroll data. "Making the choice for in-house counsel was one of the best moves I ever made," Dolan said. "We saved $200,000."

The Board of Aldermen meets at 7:45 p.m in the aldermen's chamber at City Hall.
