The following is a notice from the office of Senate Minority Leader Richard R. Tisei, who represents Malden and Melrose.

Senate Minority Leader Richard R. Tisei was joined by state representatives James Dwyer and Jason Lewis at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham on July 13, where they held a press conference to discuss Governor Deval Patrick’s recent decision to veto $4.2 million in funding from Zoo New England’s operating budget.

The Stoneham legislative delegation is working together to try to get the House and Senate to override the governor’s veto and restore the funding, which is used to operate and maintain both the Stone Zoo and the Franklin Park Zoo in Dorchester. The two zoos drew a record 565,000 visitors last year.

  1. Come on, Massachusetts residents, get behind these guys -- call your state senators and reps and urge them to override Gov. Patrick's veto. Boston is just too great of a city to not have a good zoo. I've been to the Franklin Park Zoo a few times and enjoyed myself. It's worth saving.

  1. Thankfully our Sen. Richard Tisei is right on top of things and is no slouch on important matters that impact his areas. I can't imagine not having "Stone Zoo" or the "Franklin Park Zoo". Governor Deval Patrick is way out of touch with the realities of the whole of Massachusetts Public.
