Melrose volleyball advances to state semifinal

The Melrose High girls' volleyball team won its fourth Division 2 title since 2003 and advanced to the state semifinals by beating North Reading Saturday in Andover.

The Red Raiders now 22-1, outlasted the Hornets, 26-24, 20-25, 19-25, 25-22, and 16-14. The victory put Melrose in the state semifinals Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Medfield Warriors at Newton South High School. Medfield blanked three opponents on its way to the Central crown and is 23-0.
